Where (potential) conflict-related impacts and risks are significant, sites should develop a Conflict Management Plan (CMP) with support from BU, Group Social Performance and external experts as required. A stand-alone CMP ensures continued focus on and a comprehensive approach to be taken to conflict management ‒ although it may be appropriate to include the CMP as a sub-section of the overall SMP (see Section 2). Sites may also choose to include the CMP as an Annex to the SMP.

Key conflict-related impacts and risks and associated responses should be included in the SMP. The CMP should also include approaches to increase internal capacity to manage conflict, building on the results of the organisational conflict sensitivity and capacity assessment (see 4J Guidance, Task 2). An outline for a CMP is provided in Tools. The plan should be revised annually.
